As I wrote in my last post, Hong Kong has stayed almost unchanged over the last 30 years. Although it left British rule in 1997 (the United Kingdom had acquired it in 1898 under a 99-year lease), the spirit of the city has been preserved. The perfect place to bring back memories from the start of my engineering career, 30 years ago.

In Hong Kong, China has kept some typically British customs – for example, vehicles still drive on the left (in the rest of China they drive on the right).

Unlike Hong Kong, China has gone through an incredible rise over the last thirty years – from a developing country it has grown into a global power.
…but more about that in the next story.
