Returning to Hong Kong after 30 years — where my engineering journey began

Thirty years later, I found myself once again standing in Hong Kong — the city where my professional journey as a civil engineer truly began. In the 1990s, I often visited Hong Kong while working across China on major infrastructure projects. Back then, it was my bridge between East and West — a city of contrasts, innovation, and vision.

Coming back after three decades wasn’t just a visit; it was a reconnection with my younger self — the one who believed that great structures begin with great purpose.

Seeing the world through the thermal lens — precision, perception, and passion.

As a certified thermographer, I literally look at the world through a different lens — a thermal camera. Infrared reveals what the naked eye cannot see: hidden moisture, heat bridges, and energy loss. For me, thermography is more than technology; it’s a way of understanding how everything — from buildings to people — radiates its own energy and story.

Hong Kong has fascinated me for decades. As a civil engineer who worked in China thirty years ago and visited the city seven times, I now observe it through both a personal and professional lens. The city combines precision, dynamism, and creativity in every skyscraper — its vertical development makes it one of a kind in the world.

Today, I see the city differently. Back then, I was searching for solutions — now, I understand the system that creates them. Hong Kong’s architecture remains my favorite focus because it represents the intersection of technical precision and human persistence — a balance that continues to inspire me both as an engineer and as a traveler.

Vanja Keindl: Obala središnjeg Vijetnama

Vijetnam možda nije prva destinacija koja pada na pamet kada se spomene luksuz, ali obalni resorti iznenađuju kombinacijom raskoši i jednostavnosti.

Kao što sam najavila u prošlom postu, sada dodajem malo lijepih fotografija, uz koje možemo zaboraviti sve o čemu sam do sada pisala.

Poznato je, naime- među iskusnim putnicima- kada se ide tamo, ide se u lijepi smještaj. (luksuzni resort uz obalu.)

More koje miriše na slobodu

Vanja Keindl: plaža u Vijetnamu

More je ovdje više od pejzaža – ono diktira ritam dana. Ujutro nježno, podne donosi energiju, a navečer se pretvara u zrcalo boja. Luksuz nije samo u ležaljkama na bijelom pijesku, nego i u osjećaju da vrijeme staje.

Kultura i srdačnost

Iza sjajnih fasada resorta krije se ono što luksuz u Vijetnamu čini posebnim – osmijeh domaćina. Usluga je pažljiva, međutim nikad nametljiva. Gost se tamo uistinu osjeća kao dio priče.

Međutim, pravi luksuz nije u pet zvjezdica iznad ulaza, nego u pet trenutaka koje ponesete sa sobom – tišina ujutro uz more, miris jela koje nikad prije niste probali, osmijeh koji prelomi dan, osjećaj da ste negdje potpuno prisutni, kao i spoznaja da vam za sreću treba manje nego što ste mislili.
